WOMEN'S HISTORY OXFORD

Women's History Oxford is a project run by a loose collective of individuals interested in finding out about stories of women with a connection to Oxford, and sharing these stories with others through tours, workshops, creative sessions, talks, and online platforms.

The project started in December 2016 and continues to grow. We are currently looking at women's history in Oxford through the lens of selected themes, such as education, arts or health. We are sharing our findings online through this website, as well as on Facebook and Twitter, and in person through tours and workshops which are open to all.

For blog posts about women's history in Oxford, see the section below. To book onto one of our events, go to the top of the page and click 'Book Online' [from late January 2018]. If you'd like to get involved as a volunteer, please get in touch - we'd love to hear from you.

This website is a work in progress and we intend to start putting up lots more content from February 2018 onwards, so do come back to see how it's all evolving!

Annie Rogers on Oxford's opposition to admitting women to the University

“The real strength of the opposition lay, not in any alleged care for the education or health of women, but in a dislike and fear of their presence in the University.”
